Randy and Dawn Nicholas are long time members of Chapel Hill who were accepted into the Masters Missions program of IMB in 2009. They felt a definite calling to serve the Lord in Romania and were assigned there initially to work in the eastern part of the country near the border of Moldova along the Danube River. They moved to the city of Braila and served there for nearly 1 1/2 years. In Romania, they served primarily with the nationals of Romania but also had some ministry with the Roma people group.
In the later part of 2010, IMB leadership approached Randy and Dawn to consider taking on a dual role position in Europe. After much prayer and consideration, they agreed to take on this new role. They were asked to use 50% of their time as members of the European Affinity Strategic Training Team with emphasis on technical development and support for the team. The other 50% of their time would be spent joining a team in Southern Czech Republic and ministering to the Roma people there and in Slovakia. So, in March 2011, they moved to Brno, Czech Republic to begin this second half of their term serving both the Roma with hands-on ministry and serving their fellow missionaries through various technical / developmental projects.
Brno, is a city of about 400,000 people and is the second largest city in Czech Republic after the capitol, Prague. Czech Republic is vastly different from Romania and is more of a closed door culture where people are more private and do not typically allow you into their homes. This makes ministry much more difficult. Also, Czech Republic is thought of as one of the most atheistic parts of Europe. Please pray for Randy and Dawn as they serve in Europe. You can keep track of their ministry by following them through their ministry website and facebook.
